WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 23 AUGUST 2020
Dear Brethren,
We begin reading the 3 rd Pastoral Epistle written by the Apostle Paul. This one was
addressed to another spiritual son, called Titus.
MEDITATION
Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of
God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness.
Titus 1:1
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. How the Apostle Paul saw himself
a) He was a bondservant of God
b) He was also an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ
2. Appreciating the context in which he served
a) With reference to Faith
b) This Faith is adhered to by all true believers
i)They are God’s elect
ii) They are the chosen of the Lord
c) The truth which accords with godliness
i) Truth and godliness go together
ii) Truth must result in godly living
3. The practice of this truths in Paul’s life
a) Paul conducted himself wisely
b) He sought to live consciously for the Lord
c) He practised what he preached
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. How do we see ourselves?
a) We may not be apostles
b) But we must see ourselves as “bondservants” too
2. The challenge of a successful life and ministry
a) Let us be challenged to be successful in life and ministry
b) How we see ourselves is important
c) If we see ourselves as bondservants, the ramifications would be:
i) A humble mindset
ii) Offering humble service
d) If we understand our ministry
i) We will care for God’s people better
ii) They are God’s elect
iii) No one is to be despised
iv) Everyone is to be appreciated as God’s elect children
e) If we understand truth properly
i) It will affect our life
ii) It will cause us to be godly
iii) We will practise godliness diligently
3. Examination of our heart and life
a) How do we really feel in our heart?
b) Does our life measure up to what we preach and teach?
c) Let us seek to emulate the example of the Apostle Paul
